I’ve been carrying Berta since she was a little baby, I love the feeling of having her close to me and keeping each other warm in winter. It is perfect for running some quick errands or going to the market or even the doctor. I explain more about it in my Babybjörn vs Ergobaby Original Carriers review. I hope it helps if you are trying to decide between the two brands.
Ergobaby has released a new carrier called Ergobaby Four Position 360 Carrier and I have tested it to compare it to my Original one and see if all the exciting changes they advertise are worth it or not. These are the main upgrades that you can find in the Ergobaby Four Position 360.
For the first time, Ergobaby gives parents the option of carrying the baby on an outward position without compromising the safety of the child. The new carrier has a structured bucket seat that allows the baby to be in an ergonomic frog-leg posture, seated with his/her spine in an optimal “C” position even looking outwards.
The new carrier has a supportive wide waistband that provides comfort and evenly distribute the baby’s weight. I like the Velcro option as it is very easy to adjust and feels very safe. I have read a few comments against the Velcro option because it can be sticky and destroy your knit jumpers. I think that if you are careful it could be a wonderful option, I wish my Ergobaby Organic carrier had it!
Also the new padded shoulder straps, thinner than the Original ones, allow you to wear a jacket or coat comfortably on top of them. I like that a lot since during the winter, I usually wear a big coat on top of the carrier and protect Berta with it so she is really comfy and warm. Again, this is something I would love to have in my Ergobaby Organic carrier.
After trying the new Ergobaby Four Position 360 and being able to compare it with my beloved Ergobaby Organic carrier I can proudly say that I prefer my old one. The new model is fantastic and have a couple of improvements that I would love to have in my old one but I find this one more complicated to wear, the space for the baby is smaller and it doesn’t have any pockets to store a spare nappy, cookies or my wallet… and that is very handy!
Berta didn’t seem to enjoy the new carrier and she definitely didn’t like the outward position. She spend the whole time crying and trying to turn around to face me… I guess by now she is so used to the inward position that she doesn’t feel safe otherwise.
So I would recommend the Ergobaby Four Position 360 carrier for new parents so you can have more options for carrying your baby or for those who want to move from another brand to the Ergobaby family so you have the outward position as well. And I wouldn’t recommend it to those who are already using an Erbobaby Organic or similar as you will get practically the same advantages and you’ll miss the extra room, pockets and silkiness of your old one.
Please share your experiences, I would love to read them!
